Ethereum Faces October Reversal Risk After Record Q3
Ethereum has entered October facing heightened reversal risks following a historic third quarter performance that yielded gains exceeding 70 percent, according to data published by AMBCrypto. Despite the strong quarterly rally, weakening social sentiment and shifting on-chain indicators suggest the altcoin may be due for a market correction.
Analysis from Santiment indicates that Ethereum sentiment has slipped, with the bullish to bearish comment ratio on platforms like X, Telegram, and Reddit dropping to 0.89. This marks the lowest ratio recorded since June 7, pointing to a growing prevalence of bearish commentary as traders weigh the sustainability of the recent price surge.
On-chain positioning appears to support this cautious outlook. Binance data shows the weekly Taker Buy/Sell Ratio fell to 0.95, representing its lowest level in over four months and signaling that taker sells are outpacing buy orders. Additional pressure stems from whale activity, with co-founder Joseph Lubin recently moving 133,298 Ethereum valued at over 356 million dollars to a new wallet address.
Furthermore, structural market metrics reflect growing caution among holders. The Ethereum staking exit queue has climbed to 773,447 tokens, reaching its highest level since the start of the year and indicating substantial supply waiting to enter circulation. Meanwhile, spot Ethereum exchange traded funds registered a single day net outflow of 5,171 tokens, equivalent to roughly 13.89 million dollars.
While some analysts previously suggested that mounting pessimism could spark a contrarian buying setup, the combination of rising staking exits and negative exchange flows indicates that broader on-chain weakness is taking hold. If these bearish trends persist, October could mark a decisive turning point for Ethereum after its unprecedented third quarter gains.
