Google Expands AI Mode Features for Travel Planning
Google has updated its conversational search experience, AI Mode, to include new travel planning and booking functionalities, according to a report by TechCrunch. The company announced that users can now leverage the AI interface to track flight prices, browse and book hotels, and evaluate travel costs using loyalty points or miles.
The integration moves the conversational tool beyond information retrieval into active task execution. According to TechCrunch, users can input flight criteria and have AI Mode pull pricing from more than 300 airlines and travel sites. If users prefer to wait for lower fares, they can instruct the system to track prices and send email alerts if rates change. Flight price tracking is rolling out across more than 180 countries.
For lodging, the updated AI Mode allows users to discover and book hotels through a conversational interface. Users can input specific preferences to receive filtered options complete with reviews and key property details. Final bookings are processed via Google Pay through integrated partners, which include major hotel chains and booking platforms such as Expedia, Marriott International, and Booking.com. Hotel booking features are initially launching in the United States in English.
Additionally, Google introduced global support for calculating travel costs in points and miles. Users can query the system to find options utilizing specific loyalty programs, such as American Airlines miles, for flights and hotels. The infrastructure updates reflect an ongoing industry push to embed transactional capabilities directly into conversational AI interfaces for mainstream consumers.
