Lambda Secures $1B in Debt to Expand GPU Inventory
AI cloud infrastructure provider Lambda has secured $1 billion in private, short-dated debt to purchase Nvidia AI processors for enterprise leasing, according to a report by Bloomberg cited by TechCrunch. The financing agreement, arranged by JP Morgan Chase, underscores the company’s strategy to rapidly deploy high-performance hardware and generate rental revenue to service the debt.
This financing follows a series of capital deployments by Lambda to build out its GPU infrastructure for specific enterprise clients. In May, the firm secured a $1 billion secured credit facility, and recently closed a $926 million loan dedicated to funding Nvidia GB300 GPUs for a contracted deployment. The $1 billion debt transaction coincides with ongoing discussions regarding a potential $3 billion pre-IPO funding round, following a $1.5 billion venture capital raise last November that valued the company at $5.43 billion.
The debt agreement highlights a broader trend across the technology sector, where firms are increasingly utilizing debt instruments to finance the high capital expenditures required for AI infrastructure. Data compiled by Bloomberg indicates that banks and technology companies have collectively raised over $400 billion in AI-related debt globally.
