SEC and CFTC Issue Major Crypto Relief Actions
The Securities and Exchange Commission issued a five-year conditional exemption on Thursday allowing tokenized National Market System stock to trade on permissioned automated market makers, according to The Defiant. The order establishes a new category known as a Tokenized Securities Venue, enabling onchain trading of traditional equities through permissioned liquidity pools.
Simultaneously, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission published a no-action position from its Market Participants Division. This guidance relieves passive software providers from registering as introducing brokers across the digital asset industry. The Defiant reported that both regulatory moves occurred within hours of each other, following the Senate’s decision to block the CLARITY Act.
Neither regulatory instrument is permanent. The SEC exemption is set to expire five years after publication, and the commission retains the authority to amend or withdraw the order prior to that deadline. A staff no-action position from the CFTC remains binding solely on the division that authored it. The coordinated announcements follow statements from both agency chairs indicating an intention to establish clear rules for digital assets independently of legislative action.
