ZetaChain Votes to Wind Down Layer 1 and Move ZETA to Solana
According to The Defiant, the ZetaChain community has voted to wind down its independent Layer 1 blockchain and migrate the native ZETA token to the Solana network. Proposal 68 successfully passed with 99.4% support from voters and achieved a participation rate of 58%.
Despite the strong governance approval, the migration process remains contingent on external factors. Centralized and decentralized exchanges must formally confirm their support for the token swap before developers can schedule the next operational phases. Following exchange confirmation, a second governance vote will be required to officially determine the token snapshot timing, user claim procedures, and the final network shutdown schedule.
The strategic shift highlights a broader industry trend where specialized interoperability and application specific networks reassess their infrastructure choices. By moving to Solana, ZetaChain aims to leverage the established liquidity, performance metrics, and developer ecosystem of the high throughput blockchain. Builders tracking the infrastructure landscape should monitor upcoming governance announcements regarding exchange integrations and the exact timeline for the Layer 1 wind down.
