Uniswap Labs Buys Pons Token for Long Term Alignment
Uniswap Labs has acquired PONS, the token of the memecoin launchpad that collects the majority of launchpad fees on Robinhood Chain, according to a report by The Defiant. The purchase establishes a formal stake in the application that currently drives the bulk of trading activity on Robinhood Chain, which accounts for over 56 percent of overall Uniswap V4 volume across all networks. Pons V2 routes tokens that successfully graduate from its bonding curve directly into Uniswap V4 liquidity pools.
Pons disclosed the acquisition publicly, stating that Uniswap Labs purchased the asset to establish long term alignment and deepen its existing partnership. The announcement generated significant community engagement, though neither organization revealed the transaction size, the price paid, the execution timeline, or the specific wallet holding the position. Public uncertainty remained regarding whether the tokens were acquired on the open market or distributed through a private allocation, and Uniswap Labs has not issued an independent statement on the matter.
The token acquisition follows a period of heightened competition in the launchpad sector. Pons originally launched on July 13 and deployed its V2 contracts on August 3, while Uniswap Labs introduced its own Pools.trade platform on Robinhood Chain shortly after in August. Despite initial competition from the Uniswap Labs product, Pons V2 has maintained substantial fee generation on the network, prompting this strategic alignment between the two protocols on the infrastructure front.
